How to Change the Logon Screen Background in Windows 7

If you are bored with the same Windows 7 background Logon screen then from now no more you need to look at the same background screen, as i will guide you on how you can change the Windows 7 Logon Background Screen easily. Here you need to make sure that the picture which you need to select should be in the .jpg format and should be smaller than 256KB. Here you need to be careful as you need to follow the instructions below as there are separate instructions for different windows versions as, one is for Windows 7 ultimate and Enterprise users and other for Windows 7 home users.

Procedure to Change Windows 7 Logon Background Screen for Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise users:

  • First, you need to press the Windows Key + R lettered key to open the Run box or alternatively can click on Start and select Run.



  • Now, you will need to type in gpedit.msc and click on OK for opening the local Group Policy Editor.

  • Now, you need to go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon and then you need to double click on Always use custom logon background.

  • Now, a new window will be popping up where you will need to choose Enable for using your custom login background. Now, just click on OK to close the Window.

After selecting the image, you now need to close the Local Group Policy Editor.

Procedure to Change Windows 7 Logon Background Screen for Windows 7 Home (Premium) users:

  • First, you will have to Press the Windows key + R for opening the Run box, now in the Run dialog message box, you need to type in regedit and hit OK to open Registry editor.

  • Now, Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background

  • Now, you just need to double click on the OEMBackground and need to change its value to 1 after which you need to click on Ok to close the box.


Edit Dword

  • Now, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ path and right click on the Windows, choose New->Key and name it System. (If you already have this key

  • Next up, you will have to right click on any part in the right panel and then you will have to choose New->DWORD (32-bit) value. Rename it to OEMBackground as shown below

  • Now, just double click on the UseOEMBackground and change its value to 1 by Modifying it.


Modify System Registry

  • For all other versions of Operating systems in Windows 7, you need to Open Windows Explore and go to C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds (If you can’t see that folder, you may need to configure your system so that you will be able to see the hidden files.



  • Now, just replace the default picture with your custom picture. Make sure that you are renaming your picture to backgroundDefault.jpg


After renaming, simply close the windows, log off or press Ctrl+Alt+Del to see the result.
